Before the year ends, I’d love to share my favorite Tricky Taipei posts from 2016. The ones I most enjoyed writing, and the stories I was most excited to share. Prepare for excessive use of superlatives, my friends.

And surprise, there are 13. Merry Christmas!

February

Taipei Metro Celebrates 20 Years: This project proved there’s hope that Taipei City government can pull off a fantastic design project.

Breakfast, Taiwan Style: I’ll never pretend to be a food writer, but I had a lot of fun writing this post about getting breakfast at Fu Hang Dou Jiang.

March

The Work of Taichung Artist, Liang Gen: I love discovering new local artists, and wish there were more exhibits of local young artists around town. Also, I’d love to get my hands on some prints.

April

An Amazing Taiwan Wedding Photo Shoot: Having gotten married myself this year, this was one of the best surprises. Bravo.

June

Where to Eat in Taipei: My top eating experiences in Taipei, covering all budgets. Warning: no info about night markets, trendy fusion places, or cat cafes.

August

The LAX Connection: Even though it wasn’t meant to be political in any way, this personal story from my dad turned out to be super political for some people. I even got hate mail.

Tainan City Guide: I know I need to get out of Taipei and see more of Taiwan. This year I started with Tainan.

September

A Redesigned Chinese Medicine Shop in Taipei: This one was an absolute favorite.

A Piece of Taiwan Design Comes Home from Denmark: How I came to discover the respected Taiwanese designer, Liu Kai. Also, I never thought I’d tell a story on this blog that involved Denmark and Dieter Rams.

The Five Least Business Friendly Practices in Taiwan: Had to include the most shared post of the year.

November

Vintage Highlights from the Golden Horse Awards: A black-tied reminder that Taiwan is still a cultural power in Asia, no matter what happens at the New Year’s Eve concert.

December

The 2016 Made in Taiwan Gift Guide: A plea to buy local, buy Taiwanese, and whenever possible, buy from small businesses.

2017 New Year’s Resolutions: My wishlist for an even better Taiwan.
